Award for Dr. Alvarinho J. Luis

Dr. Alvarinho J. Luis, Scientist-C, National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research has been awarded certificate of merit and memento for his immense contribution in the field of Ocean Sciences. He has generated a physical oceanographic data bank by deploying more than 500 XCTD in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean during the Indian Scientific Expeditions to Antarctica, under the aegis of International Polar Year project. Dr. Luis, who is the section head of Polar Remote Sensing, has published 25 research papers in international journals. The award was presented on the occasion of Foundation Day of the Ministry of Earth Sciences on 27^th July 2009 in New Delhi by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon'ble Minister of State with independent charge for Ministry of Earth Sciences.
