Honours for NCAOR Scientist

K.P. Krishnan, one of the youngest  scientist of NCAOR has earned a nomination in the prestigious CAML( Census of Antarctic Marine Life) project as per communication received from Dr. Victoria Wadley, Project manager of CAML.

The CAML is one of the major field projects investigating the distribution and abundance of Antarctica’s marine biodiversity, how it is affected by climate change, and how change will alter the nature of the ecosystem services currently provided by the Southern Ocean for the benefit of mankind. Krishnan would be the only member of CAML program from the entire Indian Ocean rim countries. The CAML program is one of the core project of the Census of Marine Life (CoML), which is a global network of researchers from more than 80 nations engaged in an initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans. The world's first comprehensive Census of Marine Life - past, present, and future – is scheduled to be released in 2010.

The induction of an Indian scientist into CAML is expected to bring in more collaborations and dialogue with a wider scientific community with global perspectives. More over this tie up will provide Indian researchers both scientific and logistic access to participate in expeditions affiliated to CAML and closely work with the international scientific community. More details on the CAML Project is available at http://www.caml.aq/.
