Launching of Indian Scientific Expedition to Southern Ocean

The  forth  Indian  Scientific  Expedition  to  Southern   Ocean  was  launched  by  Dr. K. E. Raman,  Director,  BIT’s Pilani in the presence of Dr. M. E. John,  Zonal  Director, Fisheries  Survey of  India  and  other  dignitaries  on  11th  January, 2010.

The expedition that is being led by Dr. Anil Kumar a Marine scientist from National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research, set sail on M V Sagar Nidhi an ice class vessel of Ministry of Earth Sciences. 

The expedition has total 21 members in the team which includes 8 female scientists. The scientists will be studying the different processes of Southern Ocean including seasonal variability and biogeochemistry between 35° and 60° south latitude.
